Arva - Shankill Co Cavan

What is the Arva Shankill 2 110kV Project?

The Arva Shankill 2 110kV Project, which is being developed by EirGrid, is a 110kV single circuit overhead electricity line from the Arva 110kV substation at Pottle in County Cavan to Shankill 110kV substation in County Cavan. The total line length is approximately 24km. The line is a 110kV single circuit consisting of five continuous wires supported on double wood pole structures. There will be steel structures where the line changes direction.

Why is it needed?

This project is required to provide essential reinforcement to the existing transmission network in Cavan. Electricity demand in County Cavan has increased in recent years and remains at a level to require this reinforcement. The loss of some elements of the transmission system, due to unforseen outages, in this area will lead to unacceptable overloading and possible loss of supply in areas of County Cavan.

Once complete this scheme will:

• Solve the identified overloading and voltage problems
• Increase supply quality
• Facilitate future development in the area
